JULY 2009 NEWSLETTER
As I write the July newsletter, it is a little over three months until we meet in Branson, MO at the Grand Country Inn for the 9th annual USS Davidson reunion. The dates are October 8, 9 & 10, 2009.
As previously announced, Karen and I will be stepping down as Treasurer and President. This newsletter will mark the last one originating from Newton, IA, and from us. The transition from us to the new staff will be made at the reunion in October. Between now and the reunion, at the reunion and in the months following, many decisions and changes will be made. While at the reunion, those in attendance will have the opportunity to decide the future and the goals of the USS Davidson Reunion Association. Karen and I believe that we are leaving the Association in good shape and with the right guidance, the Association will see many years of progress and growth.
I am happy to report that staff positions are being filled and it looks like the Association is going to be in good hands. Mike Peck, the Russell Crosby family and others will be filling the major positions. Other positions will be filled at the reunion and as needed.
Once again, it is important to get your reservations in early to reserve a room close to the meeting room and on the floor that you want. We can’t stress enough that you let us know when you make your reservations, who is coming and the arrival and departure dates. Please let Mike Peck or myself know.
When checking into the Grand Country Inn, ask for your Platinum card, which will give you many special deals and discounts while staying at the hotel. [The hotel discount on room rates does not apply to us as we are already getting a special rate.] The rate we’re getting starts whatever day you check in and leave while attending the reunion.
Right now there are two airlines flying directly into Branson. Check with your local airport on these.
The crew starts to arrive as early as the Sunday before the reunion to tour the area, see shows, shop and connect up with their buddies prior to the reunion.
A tentative agenda for the reunion will be posted on the website and by e-mail and will be updated as programs develop. We have ample free time on Saturday for you to do your own thing. Should we need more time for programs, some of Saturday may be filled. As always, the meeting room is always open should you not want to go elsewhere.
Be sure to bring along a raffle item[s] for our very popular raffle on Saturday night.

Mike Peck is in the process of ordering the 1966-1970 roster lists for the ship and deck logs for the 1972 WestPac cruise.
We have three months before the reunion so call your buddies and encourage them to join us in Branson. There are no reunion charges other than your room so you can’t get a better deal than that. [Meals, tours and shows are on your own.] Dig out your old photo albums and dust off the old memories from your time on the ship and bring them with you.
Karen and I want to say that it has been our pleasure being Treasurer and President for the past nine years. Thank you for letting us serve you.
We look forward to seeing all of our old friends in October and meeting and getting acquainted with new ones.
