BRAZILIAN NAVY CONTRATORPEDEIRO PARAIBA - HISTORY

THE CT PARAIBA D28 (FORMER USS DAVIDSON FF-1045) IS THE FIFTH SHIP IN THE BN TO RECEIVE THIS NAME. PARAIBA IS THE NAME OF A BRAZILIAN STATE AT THE NORTH EASTERN REGION OF THE COUNTRY.

SHE WAS COMISSIONED IN JULY 25 TH 1989 ,IN SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA

DURING THE CRUISE TO BRAZIL THE SHIP VISITED THE FOLLOWING PORTS: MANZANILLO (MÉXICO) , CARTAGENA (COLOMBIA), PORT-OF-SPAIN (TRINIDAD TOBAGO) AND RECIFE (BRAZIL)

IN DECEMBER 13 TH (BRAZILIAN NAVY DAY) THE SHIP ARRIVED IN RIO DE JANEIRO (HER HOME PORT).

IN JULY 26 TH 2002 THE SHIP WAS DECOMISSIONED AND TRANSFERED TO THE NAVAL RESERVE (IN CASE OF NEED THE SHIP CAN BE COMISSIONED AGAIN).

FROM 1989 TO 2002 PARAIBA TOOK PART IN SEVERAL EXERCISES WITH NATO AND OTHERS FOREINERS NAVIES (ALWAYS WITH BRILIANT PERFORMANCES).

DURING HER SERVICE IN THE BN, D28 WAS EMPLOYED FOR MANY TIMES AS A SCORT SHIP FOR THE CARRIERS "MINAS GERAIS" AND "SÃO PAULO"
